Aluminium Window Shroud Compliance

Aluminium Window Shroud Compliance, Manufacturing and Project Responsibilities

EZ Windows manufactures custom aluminium window shrouds in accordance with the approved project documentation, nominated specifications, confirmed dimensions, selected finishes and manufacturing requirements provided to us by the client or project team.

As a manufacturer and fabricator, EZ Windows does not undertake the role of project architect, engineer, building surveyor, certifier, designer or regulatory authority unless a separate written engagement specifically states otherwise.

The design, engineering, structural adequacy, building-envelope performance, regulatory compliance and suitability of an aluminium window shroud for a particular project remain matters for the appropriately appointed project professionals and responsible parties.

This distinction is particularly important for architectural projects where window shrouds form part of a broader façade, structural, waterproofing or building-envelope system.

EZ Windows Manufacturing Responsibility

EZ Windows’ responsibility is primarily to manufacture and supply the nominated product in accordance with the information approved or provided for manufacture.

This may include:

  • Manufacturing to approved dimensions
  • Manufacturing the nominated welded or modular configuration
  • Applying the specified finish
  • Fabricating components in accordance with approved drawings
  • Supplying nominated components
  • Providing available manufacturing documentation
  • Packaging and supplying the completed product

Where project-specific shop drawings are prepared by EZ Windows, those drawings are intended to document the product for manufacture and coordination and do not, by themselves, constitute engineering certification or independent design certification.

Design Responsibility

EZ Windows does not assume responsibility for the architectural or engineering design of a project unless expressly engaged in writing to provide a specific design service.

The party responsible for the project design must determine:

  • Appropriate shroud dimensions
  • Architectural intent
  • Projection
  • Window relationship
  • Façade integration
  • Structural requirements
  • Wind requirements
  • Building movement
  • Waterproofing
  • Drainage
  • Fire requirements where applicable
  • Relevant building requirements
  • Appropriate installation methodology

EZ Windows manufactures the product based on the information provided and approved for manufacture.

Engineering Responsibility

EZ Windows is not an engineering consultancy and does not represent that the supply of an aluminium window shroud constitutes structural engineering or certification.

Where engineering is required, the relevant project engineer or appropriately qualified professional is responsible for determining the applicable:

  • Structural requirements
  • Wind loads
  • Fixing requirements
  • Substrate requirements
  • Support requirements
  • Connection details
  • Deflection considerations
  • Movement requirements

EZ Windows can manufacture components in accordance with approved engineering information supplied to us.

Building Code and Regulatory Compliance

Responsibility for determining the applicable requirements of the National Construction Code, Australian Standards, state or territory legislation, local requirements, planning requirements, authority requirements and other applicable regulations rests with the appropriately appointed project professionals and responsible parties.

EZ Windows does not warrant that the use of an aluminium window shroud on a particular project will, by itself, satisfy every applicable legal, regulatory, planning, structural, waterproofing, fire or building requirement.

The project team must determine the requirements applicable to the specific building, location, classification and construction.

Compliance of the Finished Product

EZ Windows will manufacture the supplied aluminium window shroud in accordance with the nominated product requirements and approved manufacturing information within the scope of our engagement.

Manufacturing tolerances are inherent in aluminium fabrication, welding, assembly, finishing and construction.

The product should therefore be assessed against the applicable approved drawings, specified tolerances and agreed manufacturing requirements rather than an expectation of absolute zero variation.

Manufacturing Tolerances

Aluminium window shrouds are manufactured using fabrication, cutting, welding, assembly, finishing and powder-coating processes.

These processes can result in normal manufacturing tolerances.

Where project-specific tolerances have been nominated and accepted by EZ Windows, manufacturing will be undertaken with those requirements in mind.

Where no project-specific tolerance has been nominated, reasonable manufacturing tolerances applicable to the manufacturing process shall apply.

Installation tolerances, structural tolerances and building-construction tolerances are separate matters from manufacturing tolerances.

Dimensional Responsibility

EZ Windows manufactures to the dimensions provided or approved for manufacture.

The client, builder, architect or other responsible project party must ensure that:

  • Window dimensions are correct
  • Opening dimensions are correct
  • Site conditions are suitable
  • Relevant dimensions have been confirmed
  • Approved drawings reflect the intended construction
  • Changes are communicated before manufacture

EZ Windows should not be expected to independently determine or verify architectural or structural dimensions unless a separate site-measurement or verification service has been expressly agreed.

Site Conditions

Building sites frequently contain variations from drawings or expected construction conditions.

Examples may include:

  • Opening variations
  • Wall tolerances
  • Window positioning
  • Façade variations
  • Structural variations
  • Finished surface variations
  • Waterproofing interfaces

Where site conditions differ from the approved documentation, the responsible project team should determine the appropriate resolution.

EZ Windows should not modify manufactured products on site unless such modification has been specifically authorised and agreed.

Installation Responsibility

Unless expressly agreed otherwise in writing, installation is separate from the manufacture of the aluminium window shroud.

The installer or responsible project party must ensure that installation is undertaken in accordance with:

  • Approved project drawings
  • Approved fixing details
  • Manufacturer information
  • Engineering requirements
  • Building-envelope requirements
  • Applicable regulations
  • Site conditions

Correct installation is essential to the performance and appearance of the completed installation.

Waterproofing and Building Envelope

Window shrouds may interface with:

  • Windows
  • Flashings
  • Membranes
  • Cladding
  • Brickwork
  • Render
  • Cavity systems
  • Sealants
  • Drainage systems

EZ Windows does not assume responsibility for the design or performance of the overall building-envelope system unless specifically engaged to provide that design service.

The project architect, façade consultant, waterproofing consultant, engineer, builder and other relevant parties must coordinate these interfaces as appropriate.

Fixing and Structural Support

The appropriate fixing system depends on the project-specific:

  • Shroud dimensions
  • Projection
  • Weight
  • Substrate
  • Wind exposure
  • Structural design
  • Building movement
  • Installation conditions

EZ Windows can manufacture components in accordance with nominated fixing details.

The responsible project professional must determine whether the fixing arrangement is suitable for the particular project where engineering or design assessment is required.

Finish Compliance

Aluminium window shrouds supplied by EZ Windows are finished in accordance with the finish, colour and coating system selected, specified or otherwise approved for the project.

The applied finish is subject to the normal characteristics and tolerances associated with the nominated coating and manufacturing process.

Colour and appearance should be assessed in accordance with the applicable coating manufacturer’s requirements and accepted industry practices.

Powder-Coated Finishes

Where powder coating is specified, selected or chosen, EZ Windows applies the nominated powder-coating system in accordance with the manufacturing requirements applicable to that finish.

The warranty applicable to the finish is subject to the selected coating system and the conditions set out in the applicable warranty documentation.

The project team is responsible for selecting a finish appropriate to the intended environment where such selection requires specialist assessment.

Environmental Exposure

The suitability of a particular coating system can depend on:

  • Location
  • Coastal exposure
  • Industrial exposure
  • UV exposure
  • Atmospheric conditions
  • Cleaning
  • Maintenance

Where specialist environmental assessment is required, the project team should obtain appropriate advice before selecting the finish.

Australian Standards and Specifications

Where a project specification identifies particular Australian Standards, technical requirements or other standards applicable to the product, EZ Windows will manufacture within the scope of those requirements to the extent expressly included in our agreed scope of supply.

The mere reference to a standard within project documentation does not make EZ Windows responsible for the entirety of the project’s compliance with that standard.

The project team remains responsible for determining which standards apply and how they apply to the overall project.

Certifications and Engineering Documentation

Where a project requires specific certificates, test reports, engineering documentation or compliance documentation, the requirement should be identified before quotation and manufacture.

EZ Windows will provide documentation that is available and applicable to the supplied product within the agreed scope.

EZ Windows does not represent that every project-specific certification, engineering report or regulatory approval is included unless expressly agreed.

Product Substitution

Where an alternative product, material, finish, fixing or construction method is proposed, the relevant project party must determine whether the alternative is acceptable for the project.

EZ Windows should not be taken to have independently approved a design substitution merely by manufacturing or supplying a product following an instruction from the client or project team.

Changes After Approval

Changes to dimensions, configuration, finish or construction after approval may affect:

  • Manufacturing
  • Cost
  • Lead time
  • Installation
  • Engineering
  • Compliance
  • Coordination

Changes should be formally communicated and approved before manufacture where practical.

What EZ Windows Does Not Represent

Unless expressly agreed in writing, EZ Windows does not represent that:

  • The shroud design is structurally engineered
  • The shroud design satisfies every applicable building requirement
  • The shroud design satisfies every applicable Australian Standard
  • The overall façade system is compliant
  • The installation is compliant
  • The building-envelope system is compliant
  • The project is compliant with planning requirements
  • The product is suitable for every possible environment
  • The product will perform independently of its specified installation and surrounding construction

These matters must be assessed within the appropriate professional and project context.

Manufacturer’s Role

EZ Windows’ role is to provide a professionally manufactured product in accordance with the agreed scope of supply.

We work with architects, builders, designers, engineers and project teams by manufacturing the product required for the project based on the information supplied and approved for manufacture.

This clearly separates manufacturing responsibility from project design and certification responsibility.

Final Compliance Statement

EZ Windows manufactures aluminium window shrouds to the dimensions, configuration, finish and manufacturing information approved or nominated for the project.

Responsibility for architectural design, engineering, installation, building-envelope design, regulatory compliance, certification and overall project suitability remains with the appropriately appointed project professionals and responsible parties unless a separate written agreement expressly provides otherwise.

Where a project requires engineering, certification or regulatory assessment, those requirements should be completed by appropriately qualified professionals before manufacture and installation.
